
LORDSTOWN Ohio (AP) -- Recent joy at the revitalized General Motors Corp. plants in this northeast Ohio blue-collar town turned somber Friday with word that about 1,000 workers will be laid off.
At the GM Lordstown assembly plant that makes the Cobalt and Pontiac G5 fuel-efficient cars, about 850 jobs among 3,400 will be affected by GM cutbacks, said Jim Graham, president of United Auto Workers Local 1112.
